Where My World Begins

Asleep on a spring like December day I
Could feel the balmy air and the warmth of the sun’s rays
Wafting through the hallway, almost creeping up on an animal’s feet,
Alarming me with their silent growls.

Last night I became a child again,
Hearing voices only I could hear, fearing predators who could be
In hiding within the closet, and wrinkles on my bedspread became snakes.
Cannibals I feared would reach out and succumb.

My bed then became a ship with a sail of woven silver
Surrounding the deck was a gate of wrought iron,
To protect me, I hoped from the demons that torment me.
Every day and every night,
I sail upon my beautiful ship of dreams,
Hopefully drifting off towards the horizon where eternity begins,
Towards my own personalized universe where no black holes exist,
And where my own shining star shall never burn out.

As I drift off to sleep on this spring like December day
And as I board my ship with its beautiful sail of woven silver,
I sail beyond the sun to escape reality.

My own world beyond the horizon is very small and confined
But it is the only safe place that I can so reside, to do as I please
As no one is ever present to scold me for my wrong doings,
I am never lonely for I have the Programmed at my fingertips,
Who slip and slide through only at my command-
Every single day I thank god for my solitude,
The quiet voices, The Programmed, my hallucinatory world,
And sometimes things don’t happen quite as I would prefer them to,
I can always board my ship with its beautiful silver sail to t he wind,
And sail off into my own created sunset- to that sun, which shall never burn out,
That magical land beyond the horizon where I am always in control
Alone, where I cannot be controlled and the black holes have long since burnt out…
