A Reflection on Israel
(Dedication to Israeli music as I listen))

In the quiescence of the evening,
Your song rings clarion about my living room-
Though I do not understand the meanings of the words you sing,
Your melody cries out to me,
Each tone is filled with ardor, amity and profound devotion.
As you reach out with your arms to embrace and
To carry me to our homestead, I have to say
I fear living as much as I fear death.
If I could understand the words in your song,
I know there would be some sort of connection.
Although foreign to me, the words you sing are heartfelt, and
Never untruthful, and neither would my words be lies to you.
I would join those who sing songs of praise to
The one and only God, in which we so believe,
If I were not afraid to live a life outside myself-
I still live in so much trepidation and am barred from the world outside.
Your exotic songs emphasize that I truly do believe, as
It emanates from inside and
Within every chamber of my heart,
Your tune reverberates.
Such harmonious intonations shall carry us towards our homestead
Which in flesh I have never visited, although
In this very moment is where in heart I stand and wish to reside forever, if I could.
Your sung words have evoked a sense of belonging
Which I feel now for the first time in my life-
Carry me home to Israel in song, flesh, soul and spirit,
With jubilation and without fear,
Take me to the place I wish could be my home, and
Help me break down these walls of unreality in which
I have always lived, and as I listen to your song,
Let me understand the language that you sing, for it is
The language of joy from the heart, and of the people
Who sing your songs - the ones I so deeply wish to be a part of,
The Israeli ‘s who love their music, and who are the lovers of their land, their people and their God…
