For Marjorie
For Marjorie
A towering tree, you are, with leaves of
Crimson, copper-hued.
Your slender branches
Reach out to all of natures’ beauty.
Your sprouting twigs
Are fairies’ fingertips.
You are forever strumming tunes of ardor
Upon your harp of grass.
You sing…
Once your trunk, less strong, many years ago,
Was almost carried by a gust of arctic wind.
The sun cast shadows upon a stony creek.
You did not fall within.
You stood against the current
With all of your dogged strength.
You did not fall, towering tree,
You just grew taller,
Your branches, stronger.
In you I believe.
Within the forest, you are the boldest tree.
You have survived winters’ squalls,
And summers’ storms.
Never breaking- but always resilient-
Bending-yes- at times,
With your slender branches,
You reach out to natures’ entire beauty
The leaves you bear are crimson, copper hued
You stand out amidst the woodland.
What a magnificent tree you are!
You rule the forest.
In you, I believe
