The term Artistamp is a word-blend of "artist" and "stamp". It refers to a postage stamp-like art form. It is similar to a Cinderella stamp, in that it is not valid for postage. These stamps are pieces of miniature artwork which can depict or commemorate any subject the maker chooses.

The artwork may be accomplished using any method or medium. For example they can be hand-drawn or painted, photographed, etched, rubber stamped, or produced on a computer. As with the design, the production method is entirely the choice of the artist.

Artistamps are often created as a unique one-of-a-kind art piece or in limited editions. They have been produced as multiples of one design per sheet; a multitude of designs per page; as miniature sheets with a decorative or inclusive border; or any combination/size/shape the artists dreams up.

Artistamp creators sometimes include their work on legitimate mail, alongside valid postage stamps, when decorating the envelope with their art. This is another fun way to express yourself through “Mail Art.”

Some Artistamp artists also create “stamps” for their own imaginary "postal administrations", or countries.

For the collector, Artistamps can be purchased via the internet, through auction sites or direct from artists and other collectors. Many Artistamp creators are happy to swap their creations with other practitioners of the form, either directly or within the broader concept of mail art.
